Choose a symbol

The central sigil defines the magical material: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, Crystal, Aeriform, Wind underfoot, or Repetition. Signs around the seal then modify how that material behaves.

Draw the seal

The closed circle gives the spell a boundary. Every sigil or sign must be inside or connected to the ring to contribute. An outside mark remains visible but is ignored. If the ring stays open, the ritual cannot activate.

A closed ring without a sigil releases a brief burst of raw energy. The sigil chooses the material, but it is not required to produce an effect.

3

Add signs

Signs modify energy or matter through supply, state, form, motion, target, scope, relation, or power. Menu-placed signs and freehand marks around the circle are read as separate modifiers. The menu drawing is exactly the form placed on the grid and reproduced in 3D ink.

Place and edit symbols

  • Sigils and signs combines the complete reference catalog with the direct placement palette.
  • Open Sigils and signs, pick up a symbol like a Scratch block, and drag it to the desired position on the parchment. Release only when the preview indicates a valid drop.
  • Right-click a placed symbol to select it. On a touch screen, use a long press.
  • Open Sigil composition from the Sigils and signs tab to create a default seal, or use the right-click action on a selected circle to edit its detected sigils and signs.
  • Set Circle size before inscription. The new seal is placed at the center of the visible parchment; an existing seal keeps its position while its radius is adjusted.
  • Use the − and + buttons in the drawing toolbar to shrink or enlarge the selected symbol.
  • Choose the selection tool to drag a selected symbol to a new position. Press Delete or Backspace to remove it, or Escape to clear the selection.

Trace with an onion guide

  • The simulator no longer places unverified library circles as guides. Use My examples for circles you saved yourself.
  • Adjust opacity or hide and show the guide without changing the spell or the archived PNG.
  • Use Save as example beside Archive PNG to keep the current vector circle in My examples. Personal examples can be reused or deleted.

Sign categories

Directional signs project or pull in one direction. Semi-directional signs often face the center, but their orientation does not always create movement. Non-directional signs keep the same effect at every angle. Asymmetrical signs are less predictable. The simulator only reverses signs whose inversion is documented.

What the 65,601 variants count

40 x 41 / 2 = 820 unordered sign pairs with repetition; 40 material signatures x 820 = 32,800 recipes; 32,800 x 2 supports = 65,600, plus 1 complete structured ritual seal.

65,601 indexed variants Open the complete variant explorer
  • Each indexed recipe combines one of 29 single sigils or 11 balanced base-element mixtures, one unordered pair of 40 signs, and either no support or the shoe support.
  • Only Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind participate in base-element mixtures; the other central sigils keep their existing primary behavior.
  • The six inferred pair behaviors are steam, heated earth, fire vortex, driven mist, mud, and dust.
  • The four three-element interpretations are moving mud, pressurized steam, heated mud, and ash; all four elements form an experimental unstable mixture.
  • An arbitrary repeated base sigil is evaluated at runtime as dominance and intensity. It changes balance without creating a separate indexed material signature.
  • Three-sign, linked, nested, arbitrary freehand-geometry, and arbitrary repeated-base-sigil combinations are not pre-enumerated because that full combinatorial universe is not finite in the public index.

Read the fidelity level

  • Documented: the behavior is directly supported by the research record.
  • Inferred: the behavior follows documented rules but its exact combination is not shown.
  • Experimental: the simulator supplies a coherent behavior where the source leaves a gap.

Balance, rotation, and connection

  • Equal signs placed symmetrically balance pressure; a larger or off-center sign deliberately redirects it.
  • Tilting directional signs adds spin, while stronger tilt reduces reach.
  • A sign outside the ring or disconnected from it is ignored.
  • Reversing a sign changes its action only when that inverse is documented.

Read one coherent manifestation

  • Several compatible elements form one material, such as mud, steam, mist, dust, or a flame vortex.
  • Signs transform that material's state, form, motion, pressure, direction, area, and target in a stable order.
  • Read identifies the final manifestation and marks inferred or experimental behavior; community ideas are never presented as official rules.

No support and shoe support

  • No support is the default: the paper remains on the work surface and the spell acts from it.
  • Shoe support fixes a small paper under the sole. The documented Sylph-style fixture guides the wind behavior; other shoe recipes are inferred or experimental.
  • All circles must measure from 5 cm to 5 m. Shoe circles have a stricter maximum of 35 cm.

Check before activation

  • Use Read to review recognized signs, ignored marks, applied rules, fidelity, and assumptions.
  • Activation is refused when the ring is open, the physical size is invalid, or the selected support cannot accept the circle.
  • Once activated, the 3D scene keeps the exact recipe that was read until the spell ends.

Use directional signs

Column makes the effect rise or burst outward; a larger sign pushes more strongly in its direction. Equal-size signs arranged symmetrically balance the pressure. Drag while placing a sign to set its size and angle.

Tilting several signs in the same direction rotates the manifestation. More tilt increases spin and reduces reach. Levitation lifts water, fire, or light and moves air along the arrow. Pull draws toward the seal when the point faces inward, or pushes when reversed.

Examples: Watershot Seal = Water + Column; Rising Platform of Water = Water + Levitation; Grasping Wind = Wind + tilted Pull.

6

Control the area

Region chooses where magic appears: toward the center, outward, or to one side. Convergence focuses the effect at one point. Collection and Gathering recover nearby matter to build the spell.

Examples: Floating Drops uses Region; Wind Wall uses Convergence; Vapor Bubble can use Gathering.

7

Modify matter

Crush fragments matter, often with Earth; reversed, it can rebuild from powder. Stretch/Weave turns a solid into ribbon. Physical Coil gives matter a spring or spiral form. Cooling lowers its temperature.

Examples: Wall Breaker = Earth + Crush; Integration reverses Crush; Crystal Ribbon = Crystal + Stretch.

8

Stabilize and target

Orb creates a spherical volume above the seal. Crosshair has a long side and a short side: the long side forms the sight line, and the short side points toward the target. Strengthen increases durability. Solidification makes magic more solid. Stillness holds an effect in place.

Examples: Water Orb = Water + Orb; Rainflinger uses Crosshair's short side to point at the rain target; Snowfending uses Stillness to retain heat.

9

Illusion, links, and repetition

Concealment hides the target. Reflection uses a reflected image in an illusion spell. Link joins objects from the same origin. Repetition loops an effect. Projection sends an image or effect outward.

Examples: Mirror Cloak = Reflection + Projection; Light Tracer = Light + Link; Repetition Seal = Repetition around the seal.

10

Adjust power

Use the lower grimoire to adjust spell force, thickness, and scale. Visual scale ranges from x0.5 to x2. One grid cell represents 5 cm; below 5 cm or above 5 m, the measure turns red and activation is refused.

11

Move the parchment

Slide two fingers on a trackpad to move the parchment, grid, and circle together. On a touch screen, two fingers also move the grid without drawing an accidental mark.

12

Choose a support

The magic circle always stays on a sheet of paper. No object is linked by default. The Support menu currently keeps two choices: no link or flying shoes. Shoes only accept small circles up to 35 cm so they remain proportional to a sole.

The paper sits under the sole: Wind propels, Earth grows a grounded support, Water wets the table, Water + Levitation creates a bouncing cushion, Water + Convergence makes jets, Fire burns nearby, Fire + Convergence propels, and Fire + Levitation creates a brief explosion.

13

Read the ritual

Press Read to see the likely spell, recognized central sigil, modifier signs, and execution order: matter, supply/state, form, motion, target/scope, relation, then power. The reading also reports confidence and warns when a combination remains an interpretation.

14

Archive the page

When the circle is ready, use Archive PNG to save the parchment image.

15

Keyboard shortcuts

Command/Ctrl + Z undoes, Command/Ctrl + Shift + Z redoes, and Command/Ctrl + S archives a PNG. A activates the ritual and L reads the circle. Delete or Backspace removes a selected symbol. Escape first closes the 3D view or an open panel, then clears the current selection before clearing the parchment.
